That’s for sure that what we eat affects our health.

We eat a healthy, vegetable-centric diet, with sustainably raised chicken along with fish. But I’m always dismayed to see what’s in other folks’ grocery carts, especially here in Quebec. With vacationers numerous, chips, prepared meals, and sweets are way too often spotted along with commercial white bread.

In NC, we live in a different sort of place, so it’s not as obvious, but there, too. Poor food choices, that, is. Lots of people buying chips!

I bake all of our own whole grain bread, grow vegetables, etc, so maybe I’m a total outlier.

I eat healthy, too, cooking most meals from scratch. Eating habits are definitely a personal issue!

It will sound strange, but a few years ago I had a rather sever case of the flu and in the long run it was the best thing that has happened to me in a long time. I couldn't hold down any food for a few days and only the smallest amount of things like applesauce or ginger ale for most of the following week. As I started to recover I felt weak, but I actually felt better. In part this was because I had just lost a good bit of weight and I had not started filling up on processed foods. It was a wake-up call. My appetite was still small and I chose a habit of small healthy meals. My motto was/is Fresh and Less. It took waking up to how much better I felt, to be able to stick to a healthy diet. Now I have no interest in overeating, no matter what the temptation might be. Less keeps me much happier. And Fresh is so much better for my brain, body and energy.

Interesting, Sandy. I had COVID a few weeks ago, and I ate very little, though I still have my sense of taste and smell. I tend to eat too fast and so overeat. COVID seems to have changed that. Sounds strange but I have already lost 5 lbs!

Hi Sue,

It is interesting isn't it. I encourage you to do what feels right. Let your body lead the way if possible. I have not had Covid and don't know how you are feeling now. I understand it can vary a lot from person to person. Perhaps especially now that Covid has different strains evolving. From what I understand, you at least should not have to get a new Covid shot for a few months. I will be getting mine along with my annual flu shot this week. I email with people all over the country and know several who have gotten Covid in the past month. This seems rather common for those who fly. Most are recovering fairly quickly. But I also know a few people who got Covid last fall and it has kept them feeling less than up to par. Some experience dizziness or light headedness which can lead to falls and has done so in one case. Other people just have very little energy.

I know you care about your health and encourage you to pay attention to how you lost that 5 lbs. Try to remember exactly what you ate and how much and how often. This can give you an honest guide of how to continue a diet that you now know will work for you. Simple steps like this when the time is right, can make a difference not only in one's diet and health but also in one's outlook on life. At least that is how it has worked for me. I hope you have seen the last of Covid for a good long time.
